- White Paper: Impact of Perfect information on Effective Incident Management Decision Making
This paper addresses the impact of "perfect" information on effective incident management decision making by fire department personnel who work as on-scene incident commanders. Unfortunately, "perfect" information does not exist in a dynamically changing emergency situation. The best one can hope for is a continuously updated flow of real-time information displayed in an easily understandable format. If such an information system existed, the incident commander would be evaluating the situation in a condition that could be described as "near-perfect". - NIST Workshop Defines Information Needed by Emergency Responders During Building Emergencies. (NISTIR 7193)(Note: Adobe PDF Reader Required.)
NIST - "National Institute of Standards and Technology"
On May 3, 2004, NIST conducted a workshop to identify information needs for emergency responders during building emergencies. The workshop brought together emergency responders with the goals of sharing the vision of how the availability of building information can impact emergency response, and to gain from attendees guidance on what specific building information would be of greatest benefit to public
safety officials, as well as how best to present it, and with what security measures. Prior to the workshop, NIST prepared a draft white paper detailing information needs of first responders at different times for different emergencies. During the workshop, the draft white paper served as a starting point for discussion with fire, police, and emergency medical responders. Based on workshop input, the white paper was both confirmed and extended. The revised paper is incorporated into this report. To read
the full report, click on title link.

- NetTalon Introduces Ground-breaking Fire Protection System
A huge advantage for firefighters in fire control and victim rescue.
From: DIEGNAN & ASSOCIATES
TEL (908) 832-7951, FAX (908) 832-9650.
NetTalon, Inc. of Fredericksburg, VA, has introduced a revolutionary networkable fire protection system that
was recently demonstrated at the Louisiana State University, Fire and Emergency Training Institute, Baton Rouge, LA.
The system reports alarm conditions to all authorized monitoring stations within two seconds of a sensor or
smoke detectors going into alarm. Sensor and detector conditions depicting the nature of the evolving
emergency are reported instantly on a graphic representation of a building's floor plan. Icons that represent the sensors
and smoke detectors are overlaid on the floor plan and change color to indicate alarm conditions.
For the first time in fire service history, the NetTalon system network includes fire departments,
where in an emergency, fire personnel can remotely view and understand the fire emergency before the
first engine leaves the firehouse. The burn exercises at LSU demonstrated this revolutionary approach
to fire protection and firefighting, which vastly improves the safety of occupants, the protection of
property and increases firefighter safety...

Dave Kimmel, NetTalon's Director of Engineering, was on-site and monitored the performance of the System 3000 during each of the burn-building training exercises.
In addition, the tests were monitored remotely by NetTalon personnel located at NetTalon's Fredericksburg, VA headquarters as well as employees
